We Need You!

So, you may have noticed the lack of a tabletop tuesday review today. Yeah...

If there's anyone out there with a prolific knowledge of board games and indie RPGs, or hell, LARPs, we're all about having you come and write a review once or twice a month.

Also, and this is really cool, EA is now publishing some of the better prototypes developed for Spore. I'm thinking of having a review of each release, maybe every Friday or Saturday, we could do with some Saturdays. Spore Saturdays. Obviously these are all going to be interesting from a play point of view, but even more interesting from a theory of design/development point of view. Anyone who feels up to these here challenges, I say hark!

Application Process

I'm not sure about 'prolific,' but I've seen my fair share of awesome games that need more press. How would I apply?

You just did,

You just did, congratulations! :)

And here I thought I wasn't

And here I thought I wasn't going to accomplish anything today ;). What do I do now?

Use the BoardGameGeek to filter applicants

You can get an idea of how knowledgeable someone is about boardgames from their BoardGameGeek profile.

There is also this list of the most active reviewers:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/browser.php?itemtype=user&sortby=numreviews

Any of the guys on that list would be perfect.

Any of them?

While BBG would be a good starting place, it's a crude filter. Lots of knowledgeable people don't use BBG. Those who do may not take the time to enter all of their games, or bother writing reviews there. Of those who are prolific reviewers, sure some subset of them are poor writers, write about games based only on a readthrough without actual play, a just provide shallow reviews instead of the deeper thought that Play This Thing is seeking. I'm sure that some of the most prolific reviewers on BBG would make excellent contributors, but I find it unlikely that all of them would be. BBG's a great community, but it's sadly not the promised land for board game articles.

Very Interested

I was going to volunteer to judge the ENnies, but this sounds way more fun. I'd love to do indie rpg criticism for this blog, since I'm constantly playing new things every couple of weeks and could find some things to say about them, now that I've finished a massive paper on Chinese internal security forces for work.

Are there tryouts? Should I prepare a monologue and a song from "Joseph and the Amazing TECHNICOLOR Dreamcoat"? Maybe skip the song?

Actually...

Actually, I did have a tabletop game ready to go for this Tuesday, but I've been away for a couple of days, and couldn't get on to make it live. So I think Tabletop Tuesdays will come on Wednesdays today.

But yes, we could use some more tabletop game reviews.

Best thing is to email me something, ideally a review, and I'll respond... not sure I want to put my email address here, but if you click the blue "costik" above this post, and then the "contact" tab on my user page, that works.

Note that our writers guidelines are here.

Other needed reviews

Incidentally, we could also use people who are interested in reviewing any of the following, all of which I consider part of what we should be covering, but I don't think we've had enough coverage of:

ARGs
"big urban" games
mods -- we've reviewed a few, but I'd like to do more
fringe MMOs (e.g., Tale in the Desert)
Facebook/social networking games
experimental theater that verges into the area of games (e.g., Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind)

Well poot - missed my shot

Well poot - missed my shot at board games (and RPG) revieing glory by coming to late to the party....

....but I would be interested if you need more writers.

I'd like a shot

I got a bit of knowledge in this area

I've done a few reviews on rpg.net under my name of Bailey Watts and back in the day posted on their forums under the handle of Flower of December, as well as Ron Edwards' forum under the username Bailey.

I'd like to volunteer my services as well

I'm very interested in writing for the site as well. Costik, I've just sent you an email with some samples of my previous work. Hope to hear from you soon!

Somebody said indie RPGs ,,,

Well, I've played some, read a lot of them and spend some time thinking about them, so I'd like to contribute.

Can I Help?

If there is room I would love to contribute.

I have an extensive collection, over 130 games, and I try to keep up with what is going on with the European board game explosion that has been happening.

I also maintain the most popular boardgamegeek geeklist, to my knowledge the most extensive list of cardboard to PC port:
