Hi,

I've been working for a while on a small nonprofit indie-art-game "TryFail". The game is inspired by my background in existential philosophy and requires a fair deal of interpretation. I thought you might be interested in trying it out and maybe review it.

Play it, talk about it and see if you can make sense of it. There is sense to it; it's just not obvious.

The game is nomited for the "Best International Game" at the Freeplay Independent Games Festival at Melbourne, Australia (http://www.freeplay.net.au/). The winners will be revealed on August 15th.

About Anders Højsted & TryFail:
I, Anders Højsted (Ba.Phil; Ms.Sc.IT) is the founder of Great Dane Games - his one-man indie game development company.

My background is based on his gamedesign-studies at the IT-University In Copenhagen, where I was taught by (among others) Jesper Juul, Gonzalo Frasca & Espen Aarseth. Before studying at the IT-University, I graduated from Copenhagen University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy.

My ambition is to explore philosophical and existentialist themes through his games.

I'm a boardmember of the danish chapter of International Game Developer's Association, co-organizer of the worlds largest game jam Nordic Game Jam and helped in creating the Global Game Jam.

TryFail is my first publicly released game. It is an attempt to examine life and the possiblity of transcending life's inevitable conclusion.

It was developed exclusively by myself with the assistance of voice-actors & testers.

The game is dedicated to the lady of my life, Kremena Dimitrova, for her love, patience & support far beyond the call of duty.

Avalanche

Avalanche

Avalanche is simply the best web-game I've ever played. You know how Diablo took the hack-n-slash mechanic, distilled it, then put it to an endless field of beautiful stochastic patterns, dungeons and bosses and special weapons? Avalanche does the same, in a simpler way, to platforming. You control what appears to be a block of tofu; you can move left and right, you can jump, and most importantly you can hang-slide down vertical surfaces and jump off them, like a tofu ninja (perhaps recalling memories of that secret mode in Resident Evil 2, speed-running with a knife, a sentiment not removed from hardcore play of Avalanche). You've got an endless torrent of blocks, big and small with trivial color variations, coming down from the sky, and an ocean of red liquid rising beneath. Get as high as you can without getting crushed or touching the liquid.
