I see good potential in this. Would be nice if dice rolling in wargame or tedious math in complex euro games can be simplified by the iPad.

Hmm
I very much like the idea of mixing a tablet into a board game, and have been thinking about game possibilities for a while.
But I'm not sure this is the way to do it; I think it's a losing battle to try to automatically mediate the entire game. It limits game design options (hidden information is tricky, etc..) and forces the screen to the center of play.
Some thoughts on how a tablet might contribute:
1. Reducing management/fiddliness. Counters, calculations, transactions, etc..
2. Facilitating real-time events. For example, I think an iPad mediated Space Alert (forgoing the CD) would be instantly better.
3. Mediating individual instances of combat/scenario/rooms/etc.. If an individual instance has a manageable amount of input, you can manage that separately without having to keep a complete game state on the device.
In general, I think the best goal is something like this - the device periodically becomes the focal point, and you can do some neat things that are otherwise difficult, but you still have a surrounding game you can play without fiddling with the device for every decision.
