Dungeons & Dungeons

Sidescroller with Mild Kink

Type:

Developer:
This Is Pop

This Is Pop is a Flash game developer responsible for the excellent Bible Fight and Viva Caligula!. In Dungeons and Dungeons, you play a leather-clad dominatrix followed by a hooded geek slave sidescrolling through dungeon levels.

There's the usual jumping and movement; space-bar triggers your weapon, a bullwhip, which with one or occasionally multiple lashes disposes of your foes, who consist of other hooded ginks (who say "May I have another?" as they fall away), even less prepossessing figures, and a boss at the end of each of five levels. Hanging cages are lashed to produce powerups (sex toys, which mostly your slave wields for some reason), and you collect white discs (and the rare 1Up) for additional lives.

Pop's forte is conventional games with twisted themes; Dungeons and Dungeons is unquestionably a very conventional sidescroller. Yet the theme here feels a little flat, by comparison to the rest of their ouevre; maybe I'm just jaded enough not to find BDSM, at least as depicted in this rather sanitary mode, particularly titillating. Oh, it's a polished enough little game, and entertaining to play, but the kink side, at least, has nothing like the honesty, earnestness, and sardonic commentary on the nature of games of Mighty Jill Off.

(By the way, in a tabletop RPG I did, I used the name "Dungeons and Discipline," which I think is funnier than "Dungeons and Dungeons." But never mind.)

I Wanna Be The Guy

There Will Be Blood

Type:

Developer:
Kayin

Take some 8-bit graphics, a generic placeholder of a plot, a few well sprinkled cameos, a dash of masochism and what do you get? I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game. Players are taken to the year 200x, thrust into the shoes of The Kid and given the immense task of becoming The Guy. This candid plot, however, serves as little more than a means by which Mike “Kayin” O'Reilly has designed a near impossible platform adventure game.

Mighty Jill Off

When the Queen Says "Jump", Jill Says "How High?"

Developer:
Anna "Dessgeega" Anthropy

In honor of Leap Day 2008, Anna Anthropy, editor of The Gamer's Quarter and hobbyist game developer, released Mighty Jill Off, a free, old-school, and delightfully subversive little PC game. Jill Off distills its gameplay down to a very simple and enjoyable level; press left and right to walk, press Z to jump, press Z mid-jump to stop your upward-momentum early, and mash Z repeatedly to hover. Jill Off also distills its theme and plot down to a very simple and enjoyable level; the titular chubby little dyke gimp (which I say in the nicest way possible) is climbing to the top of a tower simply because she's a submissive, and her greatest joy in life is when her dominatrix queen MAKES her climb to the top of the tower.
