knucrackerLike The Space Game, Creeper World combines the resource extraction of RTS games with tower defense. But it's quite original in one regard; rather than fighting creeps, you fight a sort of blue ooze.
The ooze emanates from blue asterisks that pump out some units of ooze each tic; the map is a relief map, and ooze spreads easily along flats, gradually building up until it laps onto higher elevations. Much of the strategy of the game involves moving towers to locations where they can confine the ooze at choke points.
The backstory is that the Creeper has already obliterated most of interstellar humanity, and you are in charge of Odin City (read "your base"), which contains the last elements of humanity and can gate from one planet to another. Each level involves clearing ooze from three key points, linking them to the power network emanating from your city, thereby invoking the gate that allows you to leave.
The five levels of the demo introduce a number of units and other constructions, each with its own utility, and it seems clear that interest can be retained for multiple levels to come by adding additional such, and with alternative terrain arrangements and placement of ooze sources.
There's no single element of gameplay here that we haven't seen before, but they are combined in a novel fashion that makes the game worth checking out.
